Earth Hour night picnic and gathering

Come and join us for a lil’ night picnic and catch up.
We can watch the lights go out and acknowledge Earth Hour.

When: from 7pm (earth hour is 8.30 – 9.30pm) on Saturday 26 March
Where: under the Harbour Bridge (rain proof!) North side of the harbour bridge, Bradfield Park, on the grass near Milsons Point Station.

Bring some food and drink to share and a candle (if you know how to keep them alight in the night air!)

Event Update – November 27

Thunderstorms are predicted for tomorrow, so we are moving the event. We are thrilled to have the use of the lovely Stucco Co-operative Hall at 197 Wilson St Newtown, not far from Victoria Park. Macdonaldtown is the closest station or it’s a ten minute walk from either Newtown or Redfern Stations. See map below. Another update is that legendary deep ecologist John Seed will be joining us. Meditation starts at 1pm.

On the eve of the Mexico Climate talks, come along to remember the earth, connect with others and celebrate the sacred in the city. There’ll be a meditation from 1pm – 1.30pm, then after that listen to some inspiring speakers, some great tunes and picnic in the park. Bring info about your cause or passion to share and byo food and drink. Guests include Graham King (Aboriginal Tent Embassy) and DJ Ted (5 Rhythms).

Political media gets some grass roots

A few of us forest activists worked together to create this ad for the federal election. It showed on WIN TV in Canberra and the South East of NSW, where communities are directly affected by logging for woodchips and the proposal to burn forests for power. It proposes the question – do we think about everyone’s homes when we talk about sources of energy?

Some of us Sydneysiders have been chatting about a monthly meet up. We’d love more community, a tribe!

Creativity, ecology, spirituality, sustainability… we think it’s all connected. At a meet up we could exchange ideas, support each other and just have a good old chinwag with like minded people. The idea is still brewing, so if you have ideas to contribute, or are just interested, contact us. This little picture is what came out of the brainstorm. (Yes, we like tea!)

Earth Vigil Speakers

Earthvigil will be a series of short addresses by prominent speakers, followed by short times of reflection. There are six exciting speakers from different backgrounds, and each will be bringing a thought provoking and stimulating message on our current climate crisis. This event will give us a deeper understanding of our interconnectivity, the need for positive change to protect the earth, and a vision for the future.

Earthvigil is a public prayer/ meditation for those
who care deeply about our environment – to come together for
reflection and prayer at a critical time in human history. Harnessing
the power of prayer, meditation, and positive intentions requires as
many of us as possible – an invitation is extended to people of all faiths and backgrounds.

We acknowledge our differences, and share knowledge and understanding. We do this at a point in history when all nations urgently need to take action to heal the earth, stop climate change and through this sustain life itself on our planet. Through participation in this combined action, our desire for the world’s leaders to take decisive action for positive change and our indebtedness to the earth that sustains us is publically acknowledged.

WHEN: Monday December 7, 2009 – the first day of the Copenhagen environmental talks.

WHERE: Martin Place, Sydney

TIME: 6.00pm – 7.30pm
